Pinot Grigio is famous in Northeast Italy (Alto Adige and Friuli). Pinot Grigio is one of the few white grapes that have dark colored skins as opposed to the green color of most whites.
We are in the process of expanding our Texas planting of this popular variety by adding 10-acres in 2008. The 2006 is a blend of grapes from our Texas vineyard and wine made from two of California's well known coastal counties, Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo. We use a commercial preparation of indigenous Italian yeast. The free-run portion of this wine is barrel-fermented to give it complexity, while the remainder is fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the light, varietal character of the fruit.
Llano Estacado 2006 Pinot Grigio is made in the Friulian style, exquisitely fresh and fruity, with delicate fragrance and flavor that express the clear varietal character of the wine. We recommend this wine as a fine accompaniment to all seafood, veal and poultry dishes.
